The Minnesota Department of Health has notified Inter-County Nursing Service of a third case of COVID-19 in Pennington County. The individual is a person in their 20s. A second case had been reported Monday in another person in their 20s. This brings the total to three, with one of the above people already out of isolation.

According to Pennington County Emergency Management Director Erik Beitel, Sanford Health in Thief River Falls had conducted a total of 305 tests for COVID-19 as of Tuesday morning.

Digi-Key has announced that one of its employees tested positive for COVID-19. It is unclear if the person is one of the newest Pennington County cases.

Digi-Key released the following statement Tuesday morning: “Yesterday afternoon we were notified that a member of the Digi-Key Thief River Falls team tested positive for COVID-19. Given the fact that 42% of Pennington County works at Digi-Key, it was inevitable that an employee would eventually test positive. Through our investigation, the origin of the exposure appears to have been outside of the workplace.

“The employee had not been in the workplace since the morning of May 13. A thorough investigation of potential workplace contacts has been completed. All identified individuals have been notified and are following the advisement of a medical provider.

“The Digi-Key facility continues to be safe and clean as reasonably possible and is open and operating as normal.

“Under the guidance of the public health community, no further containment and sanitization efforts are necessary due to the cleaning and sanitizing efforts already in place. The health and well-being of our employees remains of utmost importance.”
