Calvin Kolling, 76

 Gully – Calvin Kolling, 76, of rural Gully, died Monday, August 7 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, N.D. 
  Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 12 at  Lund Lutheran Church in Gully with Michael Sletto officiating. Interment will be held at Lund Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston, Minnesota is in charge of the arrangements.
 Calvin Ernest Kolling was born September 4, 1929 to parents Ernest and Christine Kolling at his lifetime home on the family farm north of Gully.
 He was baptized and confirmed at Lund Lutheran Church in Gully.  He attended the Gully Grade School and the Crookston Agricultural College. He went to electrical school in Chicago, but chose farming as his occupation.
 He was married to Olive Wilson in 1957 at Lund Lutheran Church.  They lived on the Kolling family farm. Calvin raised sheep for a short time and milked cows until the 1960’s when he converted his cattle herd to beef. He raised a variety of small grains and a large hay crop.
 Calvin worked hard on his farm, but made time for annual family fishing trips to Lake of the Woods, the Boundary Waters and Canada.  He found time to play baseball and kickball with the children and later the grandchildren. Deer hunting was a favorite time for the family to get-together. He was a league bowler, liked to play cards, and was particularly fond of horses. He enjoyed visiting with neighbors at the Gully Café coffee table. He enjoyed gardening, and being outside and he respected nature.
 Calvin was on the Gully and Fosston School Boards for many years and the Red Lake Watershed Board for 23 years. He served on the Gully Township Board and other area boards. He was a Minnesota State Volunteer Fire Warden for Gully Township for nearly 50 years.
 Survivors include his wife Olive of Gully; seven children, Cindy Kolling (Doug Robbins) of Gully, Carol (Merle) Meyer of Burnsville, Ruth (Frank) Podoll of Fargo, N.D., Ernest Kolling (Dukka) of Brooks, Scott (Brenda) Kolling of Fosston, Cary Kolling of Gully, Shane (Deborah) Kolling of Grand Forks, N.D.; seven grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy (Jack) Aakhus/Mustermann from Lander, Wyo.; sisters-in-law, Clarice Kolling, Ardis Kolling, Mary (Dennis) Laskowski, Gladyce Huot, Beverly Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and two brothers, Omer and Ruben.
