Janice Eileen Dau was born on January 2, 1940 in Viking, on the family farm, the daughter of Venus and Ingrid (Borg) Dau. She was confirmed into the Christian faith at the Viking Mission Covenant Church. Janice started school early, at the age of four, at the Indian Trail School District 117 because the class needed two students.
She also attended school in Viking and High School in Newfolden. At an early age, Janice spent a lot of time caring for her Grandma Rosa while Grandpa Henry worked at the elevator.
Janice was united in marriage to DuWayne Olson on April 07, 1956 in Thief River Falls, and to this union they were blessed with five children, Deb, Jeff, Joel, Denise and Dawn. They settled in Virginia, where DuWayne worked at a lumber yard and Janice worked in a hospital as a Nurses Aide.
The couple moved to Viking,  where DuWayne worked out and Janice worked at home raising her family. In 1962 the family moved to their present farm in New Folden Township, east of Newfolden. Janice was a hard worker on the farm where they  raised small grains and livestock. Janice was with Jeff and Joel farming right up until the time of her death.
Janice loved all of nature. She loved the land, and watching things grow and found much beauty in a field of grain, a stack of bales and watching all the birds at the feeder.  She loved living in Minnesota for the beautiful change of seasons. Janice loved fall, the beautiful color changes and bringing in the crop of grain and garden produce.  She canned tomatoes, corn relish, peaches, pears and beet pickles, which her family enjoyed in the winter months.
She was known as an excellent cook and was often baking and cooking for something. She felt it was a mission to serve the many functions at church.
She loved her grandchildren with everything she had and each one was her favorite. Janice was very active in her grandchildren’s lives, attending their events and supporting them. They were her first thought in the morning and in her prayers at the end of the day.
She was a member of Newfolden Evangelical Church and was very active in the church.   Janice taught Sunday school for forty four years. She also was Group Leader of Women’s Ministries, served on the Building Committee, Christian Education Board and was on the Praise and Worship Team.  Janice also did a lot of catering through the years and decorated many wedding cakes.
