Funeral services were held Saturday, December 1, at Faith Lutheran Church, Goodridge, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Casket bearers include Mike Arreola, Richard Holen, Gary Iverson, Allan Steenerson, Randy Owens and Brad Owens. Interment was held at Goodridge Community Cemetery, Goodridge.
Harold Severin Holen was born April 6, 1922 at home, near Goodridge, the son of Halvor and Gyro (Homme) Holen. He was baptized June 4, 1922 at Rosendahl Lutheran Church, Reiner Township, Goodridge, by Reverend V. O. Aaker and confirmed July 19, 1936 at Rosendahl Lutheran Church by Reverend O.O. Bjorgan. He attended Reiner rural school and Crookston Technical School for a short period of time. Following his education, he returned to the family farm and farmed with his father until 1947, when he purchased his own farm. He farmed small grain and raised cattle.
On November 14, 1948, Harold was united in marriage to Luella Mae O’Brien. To this union, two children were born, Daniel and Diane. They continued to live on the farm their whole lives.
He did custom trucking for a fellow in Thief River Falls, until he purchased his own truck in 1959. He also hauled turkeys and retired in 1975. Following his retirement, he drove part-time for Allan Steenerson. He enjoyed his once-a-year fishing trip with his son, Dan on Memorial Day weekends. Harold also enjoyed snow-catting to the neighbors to visit.
Harold was a member of Rosendahl Lutheran Church until its closing, and since then, he was a member of Faith Lutheran, Goodridge.
Harold is survived by son Daniel (Susan) Holen of Goodridge and daughter, Diane Arreola of Bellevue, Neb.; one grandson; brothers, Selmer (Helen) Holen of Goodridge and Andrew (Norma) Holen of Mille Lacs Lake; sister, Inga Sunsdahl of Aurora, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by wife, Luella, on December 18, 2001; his parents; brothers, Mayer Holen and one in infancy, and two brothers-in-law, George Obrien and Ole Sunsdahl.
