Lowry – Pastor Donald Peres,  67, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
  Funeral services were held  on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Alexandria,  with Pastor Roland Boyce and Pastor David Mork officiating. 
  Donald Peres was born to Ottie and Evelyn (Symmes) Peres on June 30, 1940, in Iola, Kansas. He grew up in Iola, attending school there and graduating from Iola High School in 1958. After graduation he attended Southwest Baptist College.  He was ordained into the Southern Baptist Convention in September of 1960, and went on to minister at Baptist churches in Urbana, Mo., and DeSoto, Kan. Don later attended North Park Seminary and, in June of 1979, he was ordained as a minister in the Covenant denomination.
    The first Covenant church he ministered at was in Savonborg, Kan. From there he moved his family to Thief River Falls, where he ministered for eight years at the Evangelical Covenant Church. In 1987 he accepted a call from Lakeview Covenant Church in Duluth, where he served for 12 years, before suffering a stroke in June 1999. During his recovery, he served as an interim pastor at several churches in the Duluth area. In August of 2007, Don became the pastor at Ben Wade Covenant Church in Lowry.
    He was united in marriage to Patricia Kenison on July 2, 1961, in his hometown of Iola, Kan. The two were blessed with five children and two foster children. Don had a very social nature, which led him to belong to any ministerial organizations in the area where he lived.  He hosted a radio program for eight years in Kansas, wrote a newspaper column for eight years in Thief River Falls and televised the broadcast of his church services in Duluth for several years. He also lead evangelistic meetings five times each year, traveling throughout Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Manitoba, Alberta and Ontario, Canada.
    Don's hobbies included fishing, horseshoes, and gardening. He loved God, people and he truly practiced what he preached.
    Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Peres; his five children, Leah (Randy) Ashford of Modesto, Calif., Julie (Trent) Johnson of Shoreview, Nathaniel (Sherri) of Atlanta, Ga. Jonathan (Erin) of St. Paul and Benjamin (Stephanie) of Statham, Ga.; one foster daughter, Gloria (Charles) Hawkinson and one foster son, Everett Hoddy; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Marge, Judy and Mabel; and one brother, Jimmy;.
    He was preceded in death by his parents. A00003B2008JA09
