Andover – Lowell Larson, 60, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, May 10, 2008 in Andover.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 16, at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke, with Rev. Katie Koch officiating. Interment will be held at Moose River Cemetery, Gatzke.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 15 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church, Friday.
Visitation will also be held Wednesday, May 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel in Columbia Heights.
Lowell was born April 1, 1948 at Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls, to Glenn (Bud) and Karyl Larson of Gatzke. Lowell grew up on a cattle and grain farm near Gatzke. Lowell attended grade school in Gatzke until the eighth grade, then graduating Valedictorian from Middle River High School in 1966. Lowell then attended the University of North Dakota, graduating with a four-year electrical engineering degree in 1970.
He was drafted into the United States Army in August of 1970 and served two and a half years in active duty and three and a half years in stand by reserve and was honorably discharged in August of 1976.
At the time of his death, Lowell was employed by BAE Systems in Fridley, which was formally called FMC, and was on his 38th year. Lowell traveled all over the United States and overseas working on several projects and was granted patents and awards for several of these projects.
Lowell had a passion for music. He enjoyed writing, performing and recording music with his family, and played the keyboard and guitar. He was a large supporting fan of the band called, “Back Behind the Barn Boys.” He also treasured hunting and spending time with his family on property he owned near the farm in Gatzke (UP NORTH) where he grew up. Lowell devoted his life to his family and career and will be greatly missed by family, friends and co-workers.
Lowell was preceded in death by his father and survived by his mother, two brothers and his sister, four sons and a daughter, one daughter-in-law, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
