Kayla Lian has been offered the position of interim principal at Lincoln High School.
On Monday, Sept. 25, Chris Mills, the superintendent of schools in Thief River Falls, announced that he had met with the building leadership team at Lincoln High School and had conducted interviews for the job of interim principal. The search for an interim principal began a couple of weeks ago when long-time principal Scott Brekke announced he would be retiring as of Dec. 31. He has been an administrator in the District for 23 years.
Mills said they had some tremendous interviews from among the applicants, and that selecting an interim principal from among the candidates was not an easy decision.
Lian had stepped down from the Board of Education this past summer to accept the position of dean of students at Lincoln High School. She will now be responsible for providing educational leadership by implementing the educational and District initiatives at the building level, and direct, supervise and oversee school operations, personnel and activities.
Mills said they will now call for applications for interim dean of students. He said the changes would be presented to the Board of Education for approval at an upcoming meeting.
In comments during the school board meeting Monday, Brekke said he had spent time with the transition team and was confident everything would transmition smoothly. He said that the new principal will have the complete support of the team. He said he is only a phone call away. He added, “I’m a Prowler through and through, and always will be a Prowler.”
