\"    Thief River Falls – Gail Bergland, 70 died on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at MeritCare Northwest Hospital in Thief River Falls.
  Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. John Voelker, Ph.D., officiating.  Casket bearers included Scott Bergland, Todd Bergland, Tim Bergland, Ian Holen, Alec Holen and Barrett Holen. Honorary casket bearers included all past, present, and future hockey players. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
     Gail Yvonne Hruby was born on April 3, 1938 to Lewis and Myrtle “Susy” (Tyndall) Hruby in Thief River Falls. As a young girl she lived in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota. Around the age of 10, her family moved back to Thief River Falls. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls, in 1956. Gail was united in marriage to Richard Bergland in 1957. To this union 4 children were born.  She worked at Pamida for several years.
     Gail went back to college and attained a registered nursing degree in 1977. She worked as the director of nursing at the hospital in Red Lake Falls, from 1977 to 1979.  She then worked at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls where she served as a house supervisor from 1979 until her retirement in 2005.
     She was a huge hockey mom, who loved following her children’s activities. She was the founder/director of the TRFinettes drum and bugle corp, formerly known as the Bridgeman Half Pints and the Bridgettes. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was a power shopper who made weekly trips to Grand Forks to spend the day shopping.  She rarely missed a garage sale.
    She had several rental properties around Thief River Falls and took pride in her houses. She loved spending time with her grandkids.  She did several projects with them, including scrap booking, tie dying, anything with arts and crafts. She was proud of her Irish Heritage.
     She is survived by four children, Dr. Jodi (Loren) Bergland Holen, Thief River Falls, Scott Bergland, Thief River Falls, Todd (Heidi Tofte Bergland) Bergland, Maple Grove, Tim (Claudia Strom Bergland) Bergland, Thief River Falls; nine grandchildren; one sister, Kathy (Wayne) Langstraat, White Bear Lake; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
     Gail was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lewis Hruby; and daughter-in-law, Kim Bergland.
