On Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Northland College Theatre in Thief River Falls, instrumental performers from the area will take the stage to entertain with a variety of music. The Northland Community Band, as well as a low brass ensemble, will entertain with a variety of music and is suitable for everyone. They happily welcome families and children. There is no admission, but a freewill donation will be accepted.
The music for this performance is quite varied but will start with a march since those are such a strong part of the history of concert bands. After that the music ranges from a transcript of a piece for two musical choirs by Bonelli, Toccata “Atalanta,” from 1602 to a medley from The Nightmare Before Christmas, including two polkas, a novelty number from the early 1900s complete with slapstick and neighing percussionists and trumpets, and a beautiful ballad. The band will also play the piece “Mekong,” which features several members as soloists in addition to special water effects to recreate the feeling of the Vietnamese river by that name. Finally, our entire low brass section will play three holiday selections.
There will be a freewill admission for the Fall Band Concert to be held at Northland College on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. For more information you can contact Linda Samuelson, music instructor, at 218-683-8717 or by email at linda.samuelson@northlandcollege.edu.
