The Thief River Falls City Council will interview six applicants for the Ward 3 council seat vacated by Mike Lorenson, who has been elected mayor. The interviews will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, starting at 5:30 p.m., at City Hall.
The applicants are Derek Demers, Gary Hintz, Kelly Langness, Dale Narlock, Mary Sjaaheim and Key Teeters. City Administrator Angie Philipp said there were two other applicants, but they don’t live in Ward 3. Ward 3 is located on the southwest side of the city, including the area near Challenger Elementary School.
Whomever is chosen will serve the remainder of Lorenson’s term, which expires Dec. 31, 2026. It is tentatively planned that the new council member will be appointed and sworn in at the regular council meeting Tuesday, Jan. 21.
