Communities throughout northwest Minnesota will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 26. The following information was supplied either to The Times or other area newspapers.
Argyle
Argyle American Legion Post 353 will host a Memorial Day Program at the Argyle Auditorium on Memorial Day, Monday May 26, 10:15 a.m. The main speaker will be Russ Steer from Warren Following the program, the Honor Guard will decorate graves at Argyle cemeteries.
The Argyle Auxiliary will serve lunch at the Legion following the decoration of graves. A freewill offering will be accepted. Everyone is welcome.
Holt
American Legion Post 427 of Newfolden will hold a Memorial Day graveside service on Monday, May 26 at 1 p.m. at the Holt cemetery. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt.
Karlstad
A Memorial Day program will be held Monday, May 26 at 9 a.m. at Tri-County School in Karlstad. Kittson County Sheriff Matt Vig will provide the address. Afterward, there will be a ceremony at the cemetery.
Following the program and graveside ceremony, coffee and rolls will be served at the Karlstad Community Center. A freewill offering will be accepted for the Karlstad American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Program.
Lake Bronson
On Monday, May 26, the Halma-Lake Bronson Olaf Locken American Legion Post 315 will hold a graveside Honor Guard service at 11 a.m. The service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Lake Bronson and will be held weather permitting.
Lancaster
On Monday, May 26, a Memorial Day program will be held at 11 a.m. at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Lancaster. Lt. Col. (Retired) Scott “Poacher” Lysford will provide the address. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Lancaster High School auditorium.
After the ceremony, the Lancaster Legion Auxiliary will host a meal at 12 p.m. at the Lancaster Community Center.
McIntosh
The Friends of McIntosh Veterans will host a Memorial Day program on Monday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the McIntosh Community Center.
Chaplain Doug Hedman will present the address. East Polk County Quilters will present Quilts of Honor to Alan Carver and Todd Goodwin.
Following the program, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church will provide lunch at the McIntosh Community Center. The Friends of the McIntosh Veterans will also be selling poppies that morning.
Newfolden
American Legion Post 427 of Newfolden will hold a Memorial Day graveside service on Monday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Newfolden Community Center.
After the graveside service in Newfolden, the Ladies Auxiliary will serve lunch at the Newfolden Community Center.
Oklee
A Memorial Day program will be held Monday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Red Lake County Central High School in Oklee.
The program will be followed by a meal at the Oklee Community Hall served by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 159 of Oklee. All veterans will be guests. A freewill offering will be accepted for other attendees.
Plummer
On Monday, May 26, a Memorial Day program will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Plummer Park. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held indoors at the Plummer Legion building. Afterward, the Honor Guard will place a wreath in the Clearwater River on the west end of the city to honor veterans lost at sea.
The Legion will be open for refreshments after the ceremony. The Plummer Legion Auxiliary will serve lunch.
Thief River Falls
American Legion Post 117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793 will host a Memorial Day program Monday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Pennington County Veterans Service Officer Anthony Mapes will provide the memorial address.
Afterward, everyone is invited to American Legion Post 117 for lunch served by Jeff’s Kitchen. The lunch is free to all in attendance at the Memorial Day service.
Winger
A Memorial Day program will be held Monday, May 26 at 8:30 a.m. at the Winger Community Center. A ceremony will be held at Memorial Park following the program.
