Jack Krein, a 2025 Lincoln High School graduate, has researched preservation techniques and cleaned military uniforms at Peder Engelstad Pioneer Village in Thief River Falls. He has installed battery-operated portable dehumidifiers in the display cases as well as lighting.

Peder Engelstad Pioneer Village in Thief River Falls will host Old Time Days on Saturday, Aug. 2 and Sunday, Aug. 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will feature the opportunity to see the various buildings on-site and play glow mini-golf.

Attendees will be able to see some improvements in the military room at the Village. Jack Krein, a 2025 Lincoln High School graduate, researched preservation techniques and cleaned the military uniforms on display. He obtained battery-operated dehumidifiers to help preserve the clothing and installed lights in the display cases.

“I’ve liked this place for a long time,” said Krein, who will be leaving for Army boot camp in October.

The Village is seeking funding for additional display cases to display the military uniforms.
Another project involves the Bray-Swanson cabin. The cabin has been re-roofed, and Village staff are chinking out, or hammering the cement out of, the cabin walls. A member of the Swanson-Bray family, who is trained in that realm, will be re-chinking the cabin this fall as a gift to the Village.

The Pennington County Historical Society continues to seek funds to continue its work. As it has in the past, it is raising funds through sales of its community calendar. It is hoped that the calendar will be completed by Sept. 1.
