Local communities will observe Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The following information has either been provided to the Northern Watch or other area newspapers.
Badger
Badger School will host a Veterans Day program Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. in the gym.
Erskine
Win-E-Mac School, in conjunction with area veterans organizations, will host a Veterans Day program Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. in the school gym. Army veteran Logan LeClair will be the guest speaker.
Goodridge
A Veterans Day program will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. at Goodridge School. Pennington County Veterans Service Officer Anthony Mapes will be the featured speaker.
Greenbush
Greenbush-Middle River School will host a Veterans Day program Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. in the gym.
Grygla
Grygla School will host a Veterans Day program Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. in the big gym. The guest speaker will be Ray Benson, a Vietnam veteran who lives in Grygla.
Hallock
A Veterans Day program will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 9:30 a.m. at Kittson Central School in Hallock.
Karlstad
Tri-County School and the Karlstad American Legion Auxiliary will host the surrounding area’s Veterans Day program Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Tri-County School gym.
Chairs will be available for those who don’t wish to climb the bleachers. All area veterans and community members are invited.
The program will feature guest speaker Kevin Walz, who resides in the Karlstad area with his wife.
The Karlstad American Legion Auxiliary will also make a special presentation.
Lancaster
A Veterans Day program will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Lancaster School. The Veterans Auxiliary will serve coffee and bars after the program.
Newfolden
Marshall County Central High School, in partnership with American Legion Post 427, will host its annual Veterans Day presentation Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the MCC High School gymnasium in Newfolden. The program is open to both students and the public.
This year’s keynote speaker is Staff Sergeant (E-6) Gary J. Guggenberger, U.S. Army. Guggenberger served with the U.S. Army’s 352nd Transportation Company, 6th Transportation Battalion, deploying to Southeast Asia in July 1968. On Jan. 14, 1969, his convoy came under ambush, and he was captured in South Vietnam. His captivity lasted 1,491 days before his release on Feb. 12, 1973, during Operation Homecoming.
During his time as a prisoner of war, Guggenberger demonstrated extraordinary courage and leadership, including refusing sustenance in solidarity with a senior officer denied food and water. His valor earned him the Bronze Star and several other commendations.
In addition to the keynote address, the Marshall CCC Choir will perform patriotic selections, and three veterans will be presented with Quilts of Valor.
Thief River Falls
Lincoln High School, along with American Legion Post 117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793, will host a Veterans Day program Tuesday, Nov. 11. The program will start at 10:17 a.m. in the LHS auditorium. It is open to the public.
Warren
The Warren American Legion will hold a Veterans Day Program on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Warren-Alvarado-Oslo High School auditorium.
Veterans and community members should park in the new north parking lot and use Door 12.
The Marshall County Historical Society invites the public to visit the military room at Settler’s Square following the Veterans Day program and a luncheon at the Warren American Legion.
