Thief River Falls – Glen Eckert, 79, died on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls.
Memorial services were held Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at the Imperial Room at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls, with Aaron Langston speaking.
Glen Walter Eckert was born Jan. 4, 1932 in Sebeka, the son of Otto and Ella (Luckow) Eckert. He was baptized in August of 1956 as one of Jehovah’s Witness and became an ordained minister. He attended school in Sebeka where he graduated from high school.
Glen was united in marriage to Lavonne Mae Imsande on Oct. 15, 1955, in a small country church. He worked construction and also at an elevator in Hunter, N.D. Glen transferred to the Red Lake Falls Elevator and then worked at Homark Homes. They moved to Thief River Falls and he retired from Northern Woodwork.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, and old time music. Glen had a fondness for flowers and enjoyed traveling. He also loved sharing God’s Kingdom hope with those he met.
Glen is survived by his wife, Lavonne Mae of Thief River Falls; four children, Darrell L. (Debbie) Eckert of East Grand Forks, Peggie L. Piatt (Dale) Thompson of Euclid, Randy G. (Cindy) Eckert of Thief River Falls and Jamison R. (Tina) Eckert of Thief River Falls; two grandchildren, Angela (Ira) Piatt-Suko of Thief River Falls, and Brandi Fredrick of Portland, Ore.; one great-grandchild, Ariana C. Suko of Thief River Falls; brothers and sisters, Doris (Harold) Johnson of Minneapolis, Emily Eckert of Minneapolis, Norma (Harold) Redetzke of Sebeka, Kenneth Eckert of Denver, Colo., and Miles Eckert of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Ella Eckert; sister, Nancy Eckert, brother, Duane Eckert; and son-in-law, John Piatt.
