Thief River Falls – Morris T. Anderson, 85, died at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls on Sunday, February 27, 2005.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 4, at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad, with Pastor Gary Halverson and Pastor George Davis officiating. Casket bearers included grandsons Matt Anderson, Tyler Foss, Dillon Cieklinski, Jon Anderson, Kyle Nelson, Dallas Nelson and Zach Gerszewski. Interment was held at Karlstad Cemetery in Karlstad.
Morris T. Anderson, the son of the late Mathius and Anna (Sylskar) Anderson, was born on June 28, 1919, in Kittson County, near Karlstad. He attended school and grew to manhood here, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On March 5, 1939, Morris was united in marriage to Maybelle Olson in Roseau. The couple farmed in Jupiter Twp., Kittson County, east of Kennedy, and later in Marshall County, near Gatzke, for a short time. They moved to a farm in Nelson Park Twp. south of Karlstad where they resided for five years before moving into Karlstad.
They operated a clothing store here for several years, and in 1957, moved to Warroad where Morris sold cars for Johnson Chevrolet – Buick. In 1960, they returned to Karlstad where Morris owned the New Holland Equipment Dealership for over 20 years. They also operated Anderson Hardware Hank in Karlstad until 1977.
Morris was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church and served on the Karlstad School Board for several years. He was a member of the Karlstad Lions, a charter member of the Karlstad Eagles, and active member of the Karlstad Civic and Commerce, as well as the “Committee of 14.”
Maybelle passed away Feb. 16, 1978. On Sept. 27, 1980, Morris married Violet Anderson who had four daughters: Faith, Brenda, Mindy, and Shana, at First Lutheran Church. Morris farmed in the Karlstad area for several years. They resided in Karlstad until 1990 when they moved to Thief River Falls. They opened Past Images Antique Store in Thief River Falls in 1997 and Morris was active there until his health failed in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Violet; four daughters: Maryel (Cecil) Anderson, Thief River Falls; Faith (special friend, Tim Storby), Karlstad; Brenda (Kylund) Nelson, St. Paul; and Mindy (Daniel) Gerszewski, Stephen; daughter-in-law: Suzanne Anderson, Roseau; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister: Minerva Kraulik, Karlstad; companions: Lassie, Keta, and Cuddles; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, son: Bernie in 1997, daughter: Shana; three brothers: Abel Lund, Norris Lund, and Orlean Lund, sister: Alma Meyers, one great-grandson, and his faithful companion, Cub.
