James Rude, 79

Thief River Falls – James Rude, 79, passed away on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 (today) at Abundant Life Church in Thief River Falls,  with Rev. Wes Langaas and Rev. LeRoy Flickinger officiating. 
Visitation will be held from 11 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13 (today) at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls.
James Allen Rude was born on July 23, 1933 in Bemidji, the son of Millard and Ida (Eichstadt) Rude. Jim attended school at the Carr Lake School and graduated from Bemidji High School.  After high school, he attended college at Bemidji State University.
Jim met and fell in love with Gail Kverno while attending college. The couple was married on August 28, 1954 in Thief River Falls.  They resided and raised their family on a hobby farm near Thief River.
Jim worked at the Thief River Falls Times for 44 years, retiring at age 63.
In retirement, he enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was taking photographs, hunting, fishing and spending time with his dog, Buddy who was his faithful companion until the end. He also liked watching baseball, football, boxing, and spending time at his family’s cabin in Shotley. He was a member of the Abundant Life Lutheran Church in Thief River, where he had served as the president of the church council.  While working for the Times, Jim was active in their curling team and skeet shooting team. Jim was known for his wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude. 
Jim is survived by his loving wife Gail of Thief River Falls, children Debbie (Jerry) Skaaren of Little Falls, and Jeff (Noelle) Rude of Farmington; grandchildren, Kellie Skaaren, Cory (Jessica) Skaaren, Madison Rude, and Jack Rude;  many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceding him in death were his son Ricky in infancy and his parents.
