Marilyn was born on March 3, 1947 in Thief River Falls, to Allard and Margaret (Lillevold) Morken. Along with her brother and sister, she was raised on the family farm near Grygla. Marilyn graduated from Goodridge High School in 1965. In 1966, she married Gaylen Quam of Goodridge. Marilyn and Gaylen lived on a homestead near Goodridge, and from that union, three children were born: Eldon, Allison, and Gary. After 19 years of marriage, Marilyn and Gaylen divorced. Marilyn returned to Concordia College and was very proud to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education in 1988.
On June 24, 1995 Marilyn married Jim Honsey at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, Jim and Marilyn made their home in Stewartville. Marilyn retired from IBM in 2002. Marilyn had an adventurous spirit, getting her motorcycle license at age 50, and skydiving at age 55. She had visited all 50 states and many countries.
Marilyn enjoyed golfing, knitting, and sewing. Most of all, Marilyn loved spending time with her family and friends. In the winter, she’d enjoy boat rides in Lake Havasu, Ariz., with dear friends and family. In the summer, Marilyn always looked forward to the annual Valleyfair trip with the grandchildren and her time at Island Lake, fishing, having picnics, and listening to the loons. Her grandchildren loved helping her pick raspberries for her jelly, and helping her in the kitchen by frosting cookies and cupcakes. Marilyn also enjoyed her time as a member of the Red Hat Society and the Lady’s Tuesday Golf League at Willow Creek.
