Thief River Falls – Ed Sisler, 90, of Thief River Falls, died on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, with Rev. John Voelker Ph.D officiating. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Clifford Edwin Sisler was born on Oct. 10, 1922 in Grand Rapids to Dr. and Mrs. C.E. Sisler. He graduated from the Grand Rapids Schools and then graduated from the Itasca Junior College in Coleraine. After two quarters attending University of Minnesota, he interrupted his education and entered the US Army during World War II. He served 32 months in the medical corp.
Ed was united in marriage to Caroline Vemilyea on Feb. 24, 1946. He then reentered the University of Minnesota and graduated with a B.S. degree in Agriculture. He accepted a teaching job (Veterans Ag Instructor). After six years, Ed returned to the University of Minnesota and earned a M.A. degree. He then returned to Greenbush, to teach two years of science and six years of vocational Agriculture.
Ed was then hired with the Thief River Falls Schools to teach farm management. After six years, he accepted the area vocational agriculture position in Thief River Falls. During this time he was awarded a one-year sabbatical leave. He retuned to Thief River Falls to his position and taught until 1984 when he retired.
During Ed’s retirement years in Thief River Falls he accepted various volunteer positions. He was active at Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the council, Sunday School teacher, and the Trinity Foundation. He was active at the Heritage Center, Thief River Falls Education Foundation, Pennington County American Cancer Society President, State of Minnesota American Cancer Society, Golden Pioneers President, Meals on Wheels President, Lutheran Brotherhood President, and Hospice.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline; sons, David Sisler of Thief River Falls, Mark Sisler of Irving, Texas, Timothy (Debby) Sisler of Albertville, daughter Rebecca Miller of Perry, Iowa; grandsons, Jeremy (Joy), Chad (Wendy), David, Adam, Matthew; granddaughters, Amy, Sara, Tina; great-grandsons, Michael, Jacob, Christopher, Caleb, Cameron and Jory; great granddaughters, Ashley and Sophia ; and brothers Albert (Barbara), David (Cleo); sister, Barbara (Kermit) Kjolhaug; sister-in-law, Carol Sisler; and many other relatives and friends.
Ed loved his God, Caroline, family, friends, and people in general. Grandpa Ed loved to spend time with his grandkids teaching them how to ice skate. He also enjoyed gardening, reading, and life. He considered it a privilege and an honor to have worked with his wonder workers (his Vo-Ag teachers) for some 18 years.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Richard.
