Erskine – Leona Myers, 87, of Erskine, died on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at First Care Hospital in Fosston.
Memorial Services were held on Saturday, May 14 at the Erskine Methodist Church, with Rev. Lois Ball officiating.
Leona was born in Rushville, Neb., on December 10, 1917 to parents Peter and Winifred (Petersen) Lorenzen. She attended Rushville High School and graduated, with honors, as a member of the class of 1936. She continued her education by obtaining a teaching degree from Chadron State College, and then taught rural school until her marriage.
In 1941, she met Lawrence Myers one cold winter afternoon while walking home from school. (She knew who he was and always though he was cute.) He stopped and asked if she needed a ride and she said Yes. On September 2, 1942, they were married in Rushville and began their married life on a farm southwest of Gordon, Neb. In 1947, they sold the Nebraska farm and moved to Warroad, where they purchased a farm south of town. Their two children, Sherry and Billy, were born while living in Warroad.
A promotion for Lawrence brought them to McIntosh, in 1960, where they resided until building their retirement home in 1975, south of Lengby.
In 1965, Leona began working as a nurses’ aide at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home. She received additional training and also was a medical aide. She retired in 1985 and spent her retirement years traveling to all school events of her grandchildren. In 1997, they moved to Erskine, where Leona resided at the time of her death.
Loving family members, who will miss her guidance daily are daughter, Sherry (Milt) Brumwell of Erskine and three grandchildren; along with special friend Cassie Johnson, all of Fargo, N.D. Also surviving is the joy of her life, great-grandson, Riley Hanson of Fargo; one brother-in-law, John (Mickey) Myers of Chicago, Ill. and sister-in-law, Mildred Myers of Tabor, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; son, William (Billy); parents; brother, Leo and sisters, Marie Kramer, Frances Haverkamp, and Inez Zink. A00003B2005MY18″
