Springfield, Va. – Capt. Alan S. Cabot (USN, retired), died Dec. 24, 2013, in Springfield, Va.
Beloved husband of Carol (Bev) Cabot, father of Guy and daughter-in-law Janet and granddaughter Erika of Fort Washington, Md., and father of Cory of Washington, D.C.
Born in Minneapolis and raised in Thief River Falls, Alan was a 1948 graduate of Lincoln High School. He was a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and U.S. Naval Postgraduate School.
During his 30-year career in the U.S. Navy, Alan was designated a surface warfare officer and submarine warfare officer. He graduated Nuclear Power School and qualified as chief operator of many of the Navy’s reactor plants. He served aboard a number of submarines as weapons officer, main propulsion officer and executive officer. Assignments ashore included a 16-month tour in Vietnam as the Navy’s force maintenance officer, engineering/ordinance officer for the U.S. Naval Mission to Brazil, director of fleet modernization for NAVSEA and senior engineer for the Navy’s Board of Inspection and Survey. Following retirement from the Navy, Alan joined Ingalls Shipyard as team leader and manager for new ship construction.
Services for Alan were held Jan, 25, 2014, at Greensprings Chapel. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Capt. Alan Cabot’s name to the American Cancer Society.
