Fargo, N.D. – Margaret A. Pankow, 85 of Fargo, N.D., formerly of Hankinson, N.D., died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014 at Essentia Hospital, Fargo, N.D.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 2 at St. John’s Belford Lutheran Church, rural Hankinson, N.D., with burial at St. John’s Cemetery, rural Hankinson.
Margaret Amanda Pankow was born October 16, 1928 in Red Lake County, Red Lake Falls, the daughter of Mike and Tina Mickelson. She grew up on a farm near Plummer, and graduated from Plummer High School in 1946. After graduation, she went to teacher’s training in Red Lake Falls. She then taught at various rural schools and also taught at Oklee, Mahnomen, Sauk Rapids and Moorhead. In 1959, Margaret received her bachelor’s degree from MSUM by attending night and summer school.
On Feb. 24, 1968, she was united in marriage to Rueben Pankow at St. John’s Belford Church. After their marriage they farmed in rural Hankinson, N.D., and she continued to teach in Moorhead. Rueben passed away Nov. 14, 1985 and she moved into Hankinson in 1986. In 2012, she moved to Fargo.
Margaret was very active in her church, she served as president of LWML. She liked to help others, gardening vegetables & flowers & sharing God’s bounty with others. She liked to be kind to others and was supportive of various charities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Rueben; sisters: Mildred and Eleanor; brothers: Lawrence and Luverne.
Margaret is survived by her in-laws: Esther Pankow, Hankinson, N.D., Arnold and Marge Pankow, Wahpeton, N.D., Lorraine Pederson, Lake Park, and Carolynn Pankow, Castle Rock, Colo., and several cousins and many nieces, nephews and friends.
