Thief River Falls – Curtis Brandt, 87, Thief River Falls, died peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, with his family at his side.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Curtis Brandt will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. John Voelker officiating. Burial will be at Malung Cemetery, rural Roseau.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Curtis Brandt was born on June 18, 1927 in Roseau, the son of Albert and Ellen (Johnson) Brandt. He attended the Brandt Country School and graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston.
While living in Roseau, Curtis worked for a short time at Northwest Breeders and had a gas station called “Curt’s Hi-Way Service.” On Aug. 27, 1948 he was united in marriage to Helen Christine Friberg in Roseau. To this union, four children were born: Douglas, Louise, John and Paul. They lived in Malung Township and in 1963 moved to Thief River Falls.
While in Thief River Falls, he worked at Production Credit Association for many years. He later worked at Thibert Chevrolet in Red Lake Falls, Northern State Bank in Thief River Falls, Marshall County State Bank in Newfolden, and after his retirement worked at Digi-Key.
Curtis enjoyed all sports, playing cards, camping at Upper Red Lake, dancing with Helen, listening to country music and following the Minnesota Twins. In his younger years, he played first base with the Malung softball team.
Curtis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and an officer at the Eagle’s Club in Thief River Falls.
Survivors include children, Douglas (Marijol) Brandt of Thief River Falls, Louise Brandt of Brooklyn Center, John (Kristi) Brandt of Fargo, N.D., and Paul (Amy) Brandt of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Mandy (Jason) Schuster, Becky (Erik) Holter, Katy (Josh Suedel) Brandt, Jacob Brandt, Alex Brandt, Emileigh Brandt, Kianna Sandigan; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Claire Schuster; siblings, Marilyn Rugland, Deloris Benson, Dale (Evelyn) Wold, Beda Sander, Sharon (Jack) Lund; sisters-in-law, Marlys Brandt and Mavis Brandt; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents; step-mothers, Evelyn and Myrtle; brothers, Clayton and Edson; brothers-in-law, Steve Rugland, Kenny Benson and Fred Sander.
