Northern Freeze saw its 2014 high school football season come to an end Tuesday with a 28-8 loss to Stephen-Argyle in the Section 8 Nine-Man playoff quarterfinals. The game was played in Argyle.
It was a 2-6 campaign for the Jeremy Tallum-coached Freeze, who lost a 52-16 Week 3 regular season decision to the Storm.
Short touchdown runs by Justin Yutrzenka and Kalen Szczepanski gave Stephen-Argyle a 13-0 first quarter lead.
Those two also scored third quarter touchdowns to put the game away.
A program-record 93-yard Colby Wagner run on the final play was the lone Northern Freeze touchdown.
Wagner finished the night with 138 yards on 27 carries. Logan Bring netted 12 yards on 3 attempts.
Stephen-Argyle ran the ball 70 times for 370 yards.
Together, the two teams were for 0-for-10 passing with two interceptions.
Defensively, the Freeze efforts included 15 tackles by Wagner, 13 tackles and a blocked kick by Jonah Underdahl; and 10 tackles by Caleb Knutson.
Top-seeded Stephen-Argyle takes a 7-1 record into the semifinals today (Saturday) against No. 4 Kittson County Central.
