Greenbush – Harriet Holte, of Greenbush, formerly of Grygla, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015 at LifeCare Manor in Greenbush, at the age of 93.
Funeral services were held at Bethel Lutheran Church, Greenbush, on Sunday, Aug. 30, with Rev. Mark Matthews officiating. Interment was held Monday, Aug. 31 at St. Olaf Cemetery, rural Grygla, with Rev. Vicki Saude-Worthington officiating.
Harriet Helen Hahn was born Dec. 5, 1921 in New Maine Township, Marshall County, the daughter of Louis and Gertrude (Sanger) Hahn. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Strandquist. She grew up and attended Strandquist schools and graduated from Strandquist High School in 1940. She attended Normal Teacher’s Training in Warren, and taught at School District 89 in Grygla. She also attended summer school in Moorhead.
On June 26, 1943, Harriet was united in marriage to Martin Holte at Thief River Falls. The couple farmed in Eckvoll Township, Marshall County, near Grygla. Martin died April 21, 1977. She moved to Thief River Falls in 1977. She worked as a nurse’s aid from 1969 to 1986 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. She retired and then moved to Newfolden, where she helped babysit her three grandsons. She then moved to Greenbush in April of 2004.
She was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, Westaker Free Lutheran in Newfolden, and presently held membership at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush,
Harriet enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She quilted many quilts for her family and as gifts for others. She sewed most of her children’s clothing when they were young. She also enjoyed playing cards and games with the ladies in Thief River Falls. She did volunteer work with the meals at the Newfolden Community Center.
Survivors include children, Sharon (Norman) Miller, Greenbush, Dennis (Carolyn) Holte, New Braunfels, Texas, Wayne (Marlene) Holte, Gatzke, Jerline (Alan) Searle, Port Orchard, Wash., and Debra (Keith) Peterson, Newfolden; special adopted son, LeRoy (Ann) Henning of Yakima, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Holte, Grygla.
She was preceded in death by husband, Martin; son, Mark in Vietnam in 1967; grandson, Michael Miller; her parents; sister, Delores Wikstrom; brothers, Ralph Hahn and Stanley Hahn.
