Trailing 2-0 after one period, Thief River Falls came up with a five-goal second period Friday and went on to beat host Brainerd 6-3 in girls high school hockey at the Essentia Health Sports Center.
Kora Torkelson scored two of those Thief River Falls goals. Madison Poole, Jaimee Nelson and Tessa Jorde also put pucks in the net during that second period outburst.
Ava Marolt adding a third period Thief River Falls goal by hitting an open net with 65 seconds remaining.
Maddie Ellingson had a two-goal game for Brainerd. Allyson Smith got the other one.
Five of the game’s nine goals came on power plays –  three by Thief River Falls; two for Brainerd.
Mariah Nelson stopped 25 shots as the defending Class A state champion Prowlers snapped a three-game losing streak and improved their record to 8-4.
Olivia King finished with 27 saves for a Class AA Brainerd team that is 7-5.
