REA Classic Day 1 in the books

Kept off the scoreboard in the first period, Thief River Falls scored three times in the first 1-minute, 51-seconds of the second period and went on to beat Alexandria 5-1 Monday night to complete Day 1 of the 12th annual Ralph Engelstad Arena Classic boys high school hockey match-ups.
Crookston skated past Fargo North 7-3 and Fort Frances, Ont. got by Chippewa Falls, Wis. 6-4 in the earlier games.
After Thief River Falls and Alexandria returned to the ice following the first intermission, it took the Prowlers just 36 seconds to shatter a scoreless tie. A mere 21 seconds later it was 2-0 as centering passes by Michael Johnson were steered into the net by Ethan Johnson and Lucas Magnusson.
The scoring outburst continued when Blair Lindholm scored to give the Prowlers three goals on three shots in a one-minute, 15-second flurry that abruptly ended the night for Alexandria starting goalie Jack Nettleton.
A scramble in front of Thief River Falls netminder Kade Nelson which included several wacks at the puck in the crease finally resulted in a goal for the Cardinals’ Ben Doherty at 4:30.
But the second period Thief River Falls scoring continued when Christian Larson put a backhand shot into the net at 9:22 and Magnusson picked up his second goal by swatting one in from the crease at 16:28.
Nelson finished with 21 saves as the Prowlers improved to 7-3.
Nettleton and Jackson Boline combined for 22 stops in the Cardinals’ net.
Crookston turned a 3-2 second period edge into a four-goal win in Game 1 against Fargo North. 
Tim Parr, Bobby Tiedemann and Doug Larson had two-goal games for the Pirates, with Cody Wardner getting one. Jack Thompson (2) and Jacob Gunderson were the goal scorers for the Spartans.
An empty-net goal by Max Williams with 27 seconds sealed it as Fort Frances held off a Chippewa Falls comeback in the second game.
Chase McGuire, Cole Allen, Cooper Witherspoon, Sully Shortreed and Matt Cheetham also scored for the Canadians. Eric Swenson scored twice for the Wisconsin skaters, with Chase Hoople and Blayde Bowe adding single goals.
