The Thief River Falls City Council will interview the four finalists for the position of city administrator Saturday, March 12. The council set the interview schedule at its meeting Tuesday, March 1.
Background checks were recently conducted on the four finalists:
    • Christine Anderson, Pennington County economic development director
    • Joseph “Yose” Haj, former Thief River Falls City Council member and current owner/operator of Trax Liquors in Dilworth
    • Kandis Hanson, former city manager of Mound
    • Rodney Otterness, city manager of Union Gap, Wash. He was a finalist in 2012 for the city administrator position here. Otterness is a former city administrator for International Falls.
An hour has been set aside for an interview with each finalist. The finalists will also meet with department leaders available that day.
It is hoped that the new city administrator will start in April or May. Depending upon negotiations with the hire, the city administrator will be paid $95,000 to $125,000. A total of 17 candidates applied for the position.
The new city administrator will succeed Larry Kruse, who resigned Dec. 15 to accept a similar position in Willmar.
