Crookston – Gary Haugen, 69 of Crookston, formerly of Thief River Falls, passed away Monday, Feb. 29, 2016 at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston.
Visitation was held on Saturday, March 5, at Johnson Funeral service in Thief River Falls.
Gary Haugen was born Aug.11, 1946 in Thief River Falls, the son of Raymond and Gladys (Hoaas) Haugen. Gary was baptized October 19, 1946 at the Oscar Haugen residence at St. Hilaire, and confirmed June 18, 1961 at St. Hilaire Lutheran Church. He was raised in St. Hilaire, attended school in St. Hilaire and graduated from Lincoln High School.
He entered the US Navy Seabees June 29, 1965 and served until his honorable discharge in 1969. Following his discharge Gary lived in various parts of the country working various jobs. He returned to St. Hilaire in 1971.
Gary was united in marriage to Donna Perry in California, to this union two children were born Michael Shawn and LaCinda Ann. He was married to Patsy Spiering to this union Ryan Scott was born. Gary was united in marriage to Marilyn Grahn June 24, 1995 at the family farm.
Gary opened a gun shop with his father "Haugen Gunsmithing" in 1978 in Thief River Falls, which he owned and operated until his retirement in the early ’80s. He enjoyed feeding the birds, driving around looking for deer and deer hunting, fishing. He enjoyed woodworking and making clocks.
Gary became a resident of the Villa St. Vincent two years ago; he truly enjoyed the staff and was grateful for the care. He enjoyed sharing his treats with the staff.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Haugen of Warren; children Ryan (Erica) Haugen of Sandy, Utah, LaCinda Haugen of Porterville, Calif., and Michael (Cheryl) Haugen of Porterville, Calif.; grandchildren Tyler and Mason; sister Jackie Olson of St. Hilaire, brother-in-law Lyle Hanson of St. Hilaire, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, sister Gwen Hanson, brother-in-law Mike Olson.
