Lawrence Kiesow, Goodridge, MN, age 87, died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in his home on the farm, while saying the rosary.


Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:45 AM, on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at St. Clement’s Catholic Church, Grygla, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow at Jerusalem Cemetery.


Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Sunday.


Lawrence John Kiesow was born July 6, 1928 in Moylan Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of Erick Emil Ewald and Mary Catherine (Cullen) Kiesow. He was baptized July 29, 1928 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Goodridge, MN, and confirmed there as well. School District 98 in Moylan Township is where Lawrence walked to attend school.


He served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1955. He did his basic training at Fort Bliss, TX, and was stationed in New York.


On October 14, 1957, Lawrence was united in marriage to Irene Joan Kuznia at Assumption Catholic Church, Florian, MN. The couple farmed in Moylan Township on the land he cleared.


Lawrence was a devoted husband and father who loved to spend time with family and friends, visiting over coffee and chocolate. He was a conservative, hard-working farmer who milked cows, raised hogs and small grains. He held an interest in John Deere tractors of which he restored 35 2-cylinders. He loved to dance and hunt deer. His faith was very important to him. He was a founding father of St. Clement’s Catholic Church, and a member of Jerusalem Cemetery Board for 10 years, and held the position of Treasurer for Moylan Township for 27 years.


Survivors include, wife Irene, Goodridge, MN; children: Marilyn (Bill), Laurie (Gary), Judith (Grant), Mary Jo (Curt), Bruce (Angela), Ronald (Coleen), Betty Jo (Daren), Lynn (Jerry), Jacki (Lorin) and Kristi (Paul); grandchildren: Michael, Lindsay (Matt), Jesse, Peter (Amy), John (Zaoshi), Timothy, Rebecca (Scott), Daniel, Nicholas, Kyle (Gwenivere), Molly, Megan, Matthew, Rachael (Eric), Sarah, Abby, Kaylani, Justin, Christopher, Carlye, Jerry, Isaac, Isabella, Seth, Claire and David; great grandchildren: Addison, Austin, Josephine, Sullivan and Riley; brother: Charles (LouAnn); sisters, Theresa and Phyllis (Floyd); brother and sisters-in-law: Ray (Agnes), Rudy (Anita), Clarence (Pauline), Margaret, Zefiryna, Nettie and Eleanor.


Preceded in death by a son, Dean; parents, Erick and Mary; brother, Paul; sister, Arlyne (Lawrence); parents-in-law, Benedict and Mathilda Kuznia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul, Theresa (Bennie), George, Alphonse, Floyd, John (Bette) and Eugene.
