Joyce Larson, 87 of Thief River Falls, MN died peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the Karlstad Healthcare Center in Karlstad, MN.

 

Memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN with Rev. Cathie Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at the Holt Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Saturday at Nazareth Lutheran Church.

 

Joyce Yvonne Peterson was born on May 18, 1929 at home on the farm at Mud Lake, MN the daughter of Anton “Tony” and Julia (Johnson) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church. Joyce attended Pleasant View Country School in Mud Lake, Holt School, and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1946.

 

On June 29, 1950, Joyce was united in marriage to Duane Larson at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN (65 years and 11 ½ months ago). They made their home in Thief River Falls, MN and to this union four children were born, Steven, David, Anita and Nancy. Joyce enjoyed being a homemaker while her children were growing. Her love for children continued as she went to work at Head Start.

 

Joyce enjoyed singing, caring for plants (she had a “green thumb”), had beautiful cursive handwriting, and played a daily game of cribbage with Duane. Joyce enjoyed visits with her family, including spending time with them at Rocky Point, and she loved being a mom, grandma and great-grandma!

 

She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and was active with the Ladies Aid.

 

Survivors include her loving husband, Duane Larson of Thief River Falls; children, Steven (Linda) Larson of Grafton, ND, David Larson of Holt, MN, Anita (Bruce) Johnson of Hudson, WI and Nancy (Mark) Hilleren of Centerville, MN; 8 grandchildren, Tony (Sherry), Rob (Angie), Abby (Nick), Kristie (Reed), Dan (Jaylene), Aaron (Courtney), Adam, Shana (Steven); 10 great-grandchildren, Tim, Ben, Sydney, Austin, Juliette, Olivia Joyce, Gage, Alivia, Cameron and Eli; her faithful canine companion, Daisy; and many other relatives and friends.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Verna (Art) Lunke and Marles (Ray) Sagstuen; daughter-in-law, Julie Larson; and great-grandchild, William Anthony Larson.
