Margaret Strandberg, 72, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Westaker Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN with Pastor Phillip Rokke officiating. Burial will follow at Bethania Cemetery, rural Newfolden, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Service on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Westaker Lutheran Church, Newfolden, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday.

Margaret Ann Hanson was born on July 22, 1943 in Middle River, MN, the daughter of Hjalmer and Mildred (Kalishko) Hanson. She graduated from Central High School in St. Paul, MN, in 1961.

On April 19, 1962 Margaret was married to Kermit Strandberg. The couple first made their home in Newfolden on the family farm. In 1966 they moved to St. Paul, where Margaret worked for the Fisher Candy Company. They returned to Viking, MN, in 1975. For many years she worked for the Land O’ Lakes Processing Plant in Thief River Falls. After her husband’s passing in 1993, Margaret moved to Newfolden where she lived until 2012 when she moved to Thief River Falls.

Margaret was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. Margaret enjoyed crafts, playing cards and games, dancing, puzzles, cook-outs, and spending time with friends and family.

Margaret is survived by children, Rose (Mike) Lorenson of Karlstad, MN, Karyl Mayernik of Goodridge, MN, Kevin (Sharon) Strandberg of Hope Mills, NC, and Ryan Strandberg of Argyle, MN; grandchildren, Nick and Mark Lorenson of Karlstad, MN, Khunsa and Syra Naik of Goodridge, MN, Chloe and Carson Strandberg of Hope Mills, NC, Kelsey and Wyatt Bannerman of Thief River Falls, MN, William and Kaelyn Strandberg of Argyle, MN; brothers and sisters, Barbara (Gordon) Bring of Newfolden, MN, Hjalmer (Patty) Hanson of Middle River, MN, John (Ruby) Hanson of Hugo, MN, Karyl (Tom) Cooper of St. Paul, MN; sister-in-law, LuAnn (Chuck) Chaplinski of Middle River, MN; brother-in-law, Barney Tabery of Eagan, MN; many nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Kermit; her parents; son-in-law, Patrick Mayernik; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mable (Martin) Rantanen, Harriet (Ed) Engen, Mel Strandberg, Orville Strandberg, Daphne Tabery, and Vi Strandberg; and nephew, Rich Abbott.
