Victim of another late-game rally, Thief River Falls watched its record dip to 0-3 Thursday following a 14-13 American Legion baseball loss to Grand Forks at Kraft Field.
The see-saw nine-inning affair saw the teams swap leads six times, to go along with a pair of ties as the Bandits and Royals combined for 27 runs, 30 hits and 12 errors. Thief River Falls pitchers also hit three batters.
Thief River Falls scored first for a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Grand Forks went ahead 2-1 in the same frame.
The Bandits opened up a 6-2 lead in the fifth, fell behind 8-6 in the bottom of the inning and went back in front 10-8 in the sixth.
There were ties at 10-10 in the sixth inning and 11-11 after seven.
The Bandits scored twice in the top of the ninth, only to give up three runs in the Royals’ final at-bat.
Tuesday, Thief River Falls lost a 7-6 season-opener to Perham at the Multi-Events Center when the Buzz scored three times in the top of the seventh to open a doubleheader sweep that also included a 15-10 Game 2 victory.
The Royals improved to 5-1 with the win over the Bandits, who are heading to Nebraska this week for what has become an annual appearance in the Battle of Omaha tournament.
