William Raiter

    Bemidji – William Charles Raiter, 91, Bemidji, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 5, 2016 at Tamarack Court in Bemidji.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wilton, with Father Jerry Rogers officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Wilton, under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
    William was born Nov. 11, 1924 in Solway, the son of Leo and Evelyn Raiter. He attended Solway grade school and Bemidji High School, graduating in 1943.  He served during World War II under General Patton’s 3rd Army in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Cecelia Eisenmenger on May 29, 1947, in Fairmont.  They moved to Solway, began farming, and started their family.
    He worked on the construction of the Garrison Dam in North Dakota. He was a farmer, logger and sawyer. He worked at Bemidji State College for 20 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church of Shevlin, and later Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wilton. He enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and making sausage.  He loved his family and was a friend to many. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave him special joy. He will be remembered for his grin, wit and sense of humor.
    He is survived by his children, Leon (Deanna) Raiter of Sartell, Marilyn (Leonard) Rodgers of Columbus, Ohio, Theresa (Anthony) Botts of Shelby, Mont., Joe Raiter of Bemidji, Karen (Loren) Rux of Thief River Falls, Annette (Bryan) Marsh of Bemidji,                                          David Raiter of Shevlin, Cecil (Penelope) Raiter of Elizabeth, Colo., Tim (Charlene) Raiter of Thief River Falls, Donna (Steven) Keogh of Thief River Falls, and Arlene (Daniel) Hogquist of Bemidji; 26 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; sister,                Patricia Zimmerman of Marinette, Wis.; and brother, Bernard (Jean) Raiter of Utica, Ill.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and five siblings.
