Thief River Falls came ready to battle Friday night at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton. The Prowlers fell 24-7 to the three-time defending Section 8AAA champions.
“I thought for game number one, and with no scrimmage under our belt, we played okay,” said Head Coach Jeff Mumm.
“Lots of miscues on the offensive side of the ball and never really got into a flow offensively,” Mumm added. “Our coaching staff saw lots of good stuff and where we need to make improvements.”
After a scoreless first period, Thief River Falls broke the stalemate in the second quarter with a one-yard Braydon Johnson run. Brayden Ivaniszyn added the extra point for 7-0 Prowler lead.
DGF countered before the end of the first half with a two-yard touchdown run by Ryan Poehels and successful two-point conversion to lead 8-7 at the break.
DGF added to its lead in the third with a 54-yard Bryce Anderon touchdown reception from Ethan Edeen; and a pair of scores in the fourth quarter – a 33-yard field goal by Drew Stalburger – and a two-yard touchdown run by Poehels.
“We were very happy with how the kids have picked up a lot of new stuff and applied it to the game vs DGF. Our effort, intensity and enthusiasm was very good for four quarters on the field and on the sidelines.”
