Cynthia Kenner

    Cynthia Kenner, 64, Thief River Falls and formerly of Herreid, S.D., died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 at her sister’s residence near Thief River Falls.
    Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24 at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Thief River Falls. Interment will be held at Landstad Cemetery near Gatzke. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday.
    Cynthia Rae Kenner, known to friends and family as Cindy, was born June 6, 1952 in Pueblo, Colo., to parents Jacob Raymond Kenner and Frieda Hoernicke Kenner. Cindy was raised in southwestern Colorado on a ranch. Cindy graduated as valedictorian of Trinidad High School, Trinidad, Colo. She went on to college in Abilene, Texas, at Abilene Christian University from 1970-76.  In 1978, she was added to the Agricultural Department at ACU and was in charge of the horsemanship program and the feeding program at the Allen Farm.  She also taught in the Biology Department.
    While working at ACU she met her future husband.  In 1982, she married Richard Scott. She had two stepchildren, Shannon Scott Phillips and Jamie Scott.  The family moved to Sonora, Texas, where she and Richard managed a ranch.  
    Cindy’s passion was always about teaching people old and young to enjoy horses. In her younger years, she competed in rodeo as well as showing and horsemanship.  
    Cindy was also very giving and compassionate. She would do without to help a friend or stranger in need.  She also helped out others who were sick or needed a helping hand. Her family and friends could share many stories of her generosity.  She was a great mentor and friend, as well as a loving mother, aunt, great aunt, sister and daughter and will be missed greatly.
    Cindy lived in Texas until moving to Minnesota in 1991. She spent many hours with her nieces and nephews, passing on her horsemanship skills and her love for God and family. She moved to Jamestown, N.D., after leaving Thief River Falls.  The last few years, she lived in Herreid, S.D., until becoming ill. She moved back to be near family in December 2014.
    She is survived by  her stepdaughter Shannon Scott Phillip (Billy) and stepson Jamie Scott; her mother Frieda Kenner; her sister Jamie (Carl) Kenner Clark; her brother Raymond Bart (Vickie) Kenner; her nieces and nephews, Joshua (Laura) Clark, Amanda (Allan) Grzadziewerski, Melissa Clark, Benjamin (Ciara) Clark, Ashley  (Lucas) Fornshell, Sam Kenner and  Shauni Mulder; stepgrandchildren: Kayla Broadas Bricker and Dustan Phillips; great nieces and nephews, Garrett and Reagan Clark, Gretta and Ian Grzadzielewski, Libby Erickson, Sherman Geer and Jacob Clark, Liam and Nora Martell, and Lilly, Daphne and Ramsey Kenner.
    She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents August Hoernicke and Emma Harms Hoernicke; her paternal grandparents James Kenner and Grace Miller Kenner; her father Jacob Raymond Kenner; her ex-husband Richard Scott and her baby boy Scott.
