Thief River Falls – Roger Swanson of Thief River Falls, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016 at his rural Thief River Falls home.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire, with Rev. Frank Ehling officiating. Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery near St. Hilaire. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Roger James Swanson was born June 2, 1927 at his family home near St. Hilaire, son of Rubert and Julia Swanson. Roger attended school in St. Hilaire. He was a farmer, roamer and truck driver until entering the U.S. Army and served until his honorable discharge. He returned to St. Hilaire where he was united in marriage to Beverly Myhrer October 21, 1961 at Calvery Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire.
Roger was a truck driver for 40 years working for Elgin Loeffler and Tygeson Construction and Thorson of Bemidji, retiring in 1991. In 2006 he sold the farm near St. Hilaire and moved to the original family farm.
Roger enjoyed gardening, and a couple times a week heading into St. Hilaire for a beer.
He is survived by his loving wife Bev Swanson, children Wayne (Adair) Swanson of Thief River Falls, and Debbie (Dave Meyer) Muzzy of Thief River Falls; grandchildren Jake Muzzy, Royce Muzzy, Kristen (Michael) Swanson and Kyle Swanson; great-grandson Kasen Muzzy; sister Lorraine Johnston of Oregon; sisters-in-law Patty Swanson and Faye Swanson; along with several nieces and nephews.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Conrad and Wallace and sister Margie Deeble.
