Thief River Falls – Vernon Jorgenson, 67, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016 at St. Crispin Seminary Home in Red Wing.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 17 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Vicki Saude-Worthington Officiating. Casket bearers include Brian Erickson, Scott Erickson, John Gray, Thomas Erickson, Vernon Miller and Leon Morrison. Honorary casket bearers include Corey Erickson, Andrew Gray, Benjamin Erickson, Carter Strand, Logan Miller, Teagan Monahan. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Vernon Richard Jorgenson was born on Dec. 24, 1929 in Alma Township, to George and Hannah (Myrfield) Jorgenson. He attended school in McCrea Township.
On May 28, 1949 Vernon was united in marriage to Joan Ellen Anderson in Viking. To this union, four daughters were born. Together they made their home in Warren. Later they moved to the Iron Range and then made their home in St. Paul Park. He was a member of the Carpenter Union Local 322 for 50 years.
After their retirement Joan and Vernon moved to Thief River Falls.
Vernon enjoyed fishing, playing guitar and singing, bingo, lutefisk. They were active volunteer’s for the VFW.
Vernon is survived by his children, Ellen (James) Erickson of Omaha, Neb., Eleanor Mattson of South St. Paul, Emilie Rae of South St. Paul; Edie (Michael) Gray of Hastings; grandchildren Brian (Tiffany) Erickson, Scott (Kathleen) Erickson, Carrie (Leon) Morrison, John Gray, Rebecca (Cory) Strand, Thomas (Molly) Erickson, Elizabeth (Joey) Mattson-Monahan, Tonille Miller, Vernon Miller; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Neil (Emily) Anderson of Zim; sisters-in-law Jane Jorgenson of Eveleth, and Verna Jorgenson of West St. Paul; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joan; parents and six brothers, Oliver, Alton, Melvin, Clifford, Lloyd and George, and one infant sister Gladys Jorgenson.
