Newfolden – Lynette Nelson passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 10,  at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery, rural Strandquist.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Thursday.  
Lynette Helayne (Johnson) Nelson was born on May 10, 1953 at Karlstad, the daughter of Frence Helmer Johnson and Agnes Florence (Hanson) Johnson.  She was baptized in the Christian faith and confirmed on April 28, 1968 at Sunnyside, near Strandquist.  Lynette attended school in Strandquist, graduating on May 20, 1971.
On November 20, 1971 Lynette was united in marriage to Clifford Nelson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden.  To their union two children were born:  Mike and Tracy.  
Lynette attended the AVTI in Thief River Falls and graduated from Accounting I in 1980 and Accounting II in 1981.  She employed by H & R Block as a tax preparer for several years.  Lynette was offered a position at Pennington County Social Services as Financial Aid Worker and then later became a child support officer.  She retired from her position at the age of 55.
Lynette was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Newfolden, the VFW in Dolan Springs, AZ, and a Boy Scout leader.
Lynette had a great sense of humor and was always smiling. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Her children and husband were her life.  She was a great mother, wife, a “fair” fisherwoman, and a friend to many.  She enjoyed camping and fishing and was an amazing cook and baker. Lynette enjoyed helping people in need.
On September 11, 2012 Lynette lost her son, Mike to a tragic death.  She spent her last years searching for the answer of his death and helped run the business Mike started.  In September 2016 she was diagnosed with cancer. Lynette fought a brave battle, passing away on November 4, 2016.
Lynette is survived by her loving husband, Cliff Nelson of Newfolden; daughter, Tracy (Tim Langlie) Nelson of Thief River Falls,; mother, Agnes Johnson of Warren; brothers, Lester Johnson of Stephen and Larry (Judy) Johnson of Grand Forks, ND; sisters, Luann (Kendall) McGlynn of Holt, Linda (Fred Schindler) Bodell of Strandquist, and France “June Bug” Johnson of Strandquist; uncle, Ron (Fran) Nelson of Wyoming; sister-in-law, Betty Helm of Thief River Falls; several nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. 
She is preceded in death by her son, Mike Nelson; father, Helmer Johnson; brother, Leroy Johnson; mother-in-law, Evie Anderson and her husband, Otto and father-in-law, Chester Nelson and his wife, Clara; brothers-in-law, John Bodell, William Helm, and Clyde Jensen; aunt, Doris Lee and her husband, Avery.
