Thief River Falls –  Jean Wold, 92, of Thief River Falls, died Friday, November 18, 2016 at her residence with her loving family at her side.
Funeral service to celebrate her life was held Tuesday, November 22, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Ollie (one of Jean’s Strays) Urdahl officiating.  Burial will follow at the Community Cemetery in St. Hilaire.  Visitation with the family will be held from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jean Burnette Wood was born July 6, 1924 in Wylie, the daughter of Henry and Cora (Norman) Wood.  The family moved to a place near Carpenter’s Corner and then to Rosewood.  She attended country school and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, with the class of 1942.  Jean went on to nurses training in Libby, MT for two years and returned to work at Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls.
On December 4, 1944, Jean was united in marriage to Vernon LeRoy Wold at Pastor Silas Erickson’s parsonage in Thief River Falls.  They remained on the farm for a short period of time, moving to Thief River Falls for six years. The family moved to the farm in Sanders Township in 1954 where they have lived since.  To this union six children were born, Kathaleen, Barbara, Edward, Sandra, Verner and Sonia. Jean enjoyed helping on the farm with their livestock, small grains and huge garden.
During her years on the farm, Jean was very active in 4-H. Come the annual Dairy Days, you could find Jean at the Ice Cream Stand. On October 30, 2016, Jean was recognized for her 60 years of service to 4-H as a volunteer leader, by the University of Minnesota Extension Service and Pennington County 4-H.  She was known for her canning, cooking, baking, woodworking, and was often called upon to do wedding cakes and perhaps a wedding dress or two.  Jean made beautiful quilts for all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild. She loved opening her home to her family, friends and strays for the holidays and family reunions.  She was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help in any way.   Recognizing the need and wanting to be of service to the youth, Jean started a teen club in St. Hilaire.  Formed in the early 70s, the club remained active for years under the leadership of Jean and with the assistance of numerous volunteers.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
Survivors include her loving children, Kathy Hoefer of Ocala, FL, Barb (Al) Black of St. Hilaire, Sandy (Tom) Ratliff of St. Hilaire, Lee (Kathy) Wold of Red Lake Falls, and Sonia (Myron) Iverson of Thief River Falls; daughter-in-law, Nadine Wold of Gatzke; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 1+ great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
