Home opener produces win

Aaron Myers scored at 1:20 of the third period to break a 3-3 tie as Thief River Falls edged Tartan 4-3 in the Prowlers’ 2016-17 boys high school hockey home opener at the Ralph Engelstad Arena Friday.
Myers’ game-winner came as the Prowlers brought an extra attacker on the ice by pulling goalie Nick Corneliusen during a delayed penalty call on the Titans.
All the Thief River Falls goals came from the Prowlers’ top line that featured Myers (two goals) centering Christian Larson and Zach Lee.
Lee scored on the game’s first shot on goal. It came from the right side of the net on a Thief River Falls power play at 5:30 of the opening period.
Most of the goal production came in the second period.
The Titans’ Sam Lindahl skated around the net and stuffed the puck past Corneliusen for a tie at 2:48 of the period and Caleb McDonald scored on tip-in at 5:50 for a 2-1 Tartan lead.
Myers threw the puck toward the net from near the boards high in the offensive zone and watched it get by Titan netminder Joey Dimartino for a 2-2 game at 7:07 and Larson finished off a nifty 2-on-1 pass from Lee at 9:29.
Tartan tied it again at 15:38 when a centering pass was quickly converted into a second goal by Lindahl at 15:38.
The Prowlers, who were out-shot by the Titans 27-15, evened their record at 2-2.
