Galva, Iowa – Ruth A. Adams, age 95, of Galva, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community of Storm Lake, Iowa.  
A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 10 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva, Iowa, with the Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating.  Burial was held at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery of Galva.   
Ruth Arlene Volkert Adams was born September 6, 1921, to Frank and Amanda (Volkert) Volkert in Cushing, Iowa.  Ruth grew up on a farm in Battle Center Township near Cushing.   She graduated from Cushing High School in 1939 as the class valedictorian.  Upon graduation she attended Buena Vista College for one year and received her teaching certificate. She taught at Battle Center near her childhood home and near Kingsley in country schools.
She was united in marriage to Vergil Adams after World War II ended on December 22, 1945. Ruth and Vergil made their life on a farm in Galva where Ruth would continue to live for 72 years, until November 2016.  To this union two children were born, Paul and Patty.
Ruth was a hard working farm wife who loved to work in her vegetable and flower gardens. She spent summers canning and freezing her harvest. She loved working with animals also. Ruth was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid until her death.  
She is survived by her children, Paul and Marilyn Buchinsky Adams of Thief River Falls, and Patty and Paul Sneller of Montezuma, IA; grandchildren: Amy (Tad) Schauer of Carpio, ND, Samuel (Stephanie) Adams of Blair, NE, John (Anne) Sneller of Winterset, IA and Luke (Karen) of Burlington, IA; great-grandchildren: Thomas, Matthew, Mark, Anne and Hailey Schauer, Noah and Jacob Adams, Hayden Sneller and Jase Sneller; and numerous extended relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Vergil; her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Lawerence and Ina Volkert; her parents-in-law, Oscar and Ethel (Neal) Adams; and her three sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.
