Thief River Falls – Orin Hunt passed away at Sanford Medical Center on February 11, 2017, at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 11 days.
Funeral services were  held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Middle River. Interment was  held at First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River with military honors accorded by the Middle River American Legion Post #444 and the Minnesota National Guard Honor Guard.
Orin Russell Hunt, the son of the late Harvey and Florence (Hoyme) Hunt, was born February 17, 1929, in rural Rock Lake, ND.  He was raised in and attended Virginal Country School.  He helped at home on the family farm until he was drafted into military service, entering the 375th Military Mounted Patrol on Jan. 21, 1951, and honorably discharged on January 22, 1953.
Orin was a lifetime member of the Middle River  American Legion Club.  Orin married Jean Lucille Ralph on April 1, 1955, at Salt Lake City, UT.  They moved to Anaconda, MT, and it is there Orin was employed in the Smelter Mines.  Orin and Jean  then moved to Chinook, MT, where Orin started his career working with GTA elevators.
In 1966, Orin was transferred to Middle River to become manager of the GTA elevator.  He managed this elevator for 16 1/2 years.  In 1983, Orin was given the opportunity to work with Wilber, Rocky and Nathan McFarlane to reopen the elevator in Lake Bronson.
Orin and Jean sold their home in Middle River and moved to Lake Bronson in 1984 and resided there until his retirement in 1991.  Working for GTA elevators provided Orin and Jean the chance to travel to conventions in Hawaii, Texas, Florida and Mexico City.  They found their retirement home in Newfolden; a small home along the river with plenty of lawn to mow, room for his birdfeeders and gardens and a single car garage to make his wood working shop.
Orin was not as totally ready for retirement as he thought, so he started driving tractor part-time for the peat farm on the outside of Newfolden.  He was very happy when he was humming along in his tractor, being early to rise to be sure his tractor was ready to roll for the day.
Jean passed away July 8, 2011, and Orin resided at Valley Home in Thief River Falls for the past 14 months.
Orin is survived by three daughters: Emma (Dale) Brown and Florence (Jay) Nelson, both of Thief River Falls and Rhonda Gram, of Middle River;  grandchildren: Heather (Wayne) Garthus and their children, Cole, Jalen, Junior and Summer, of Holt,   Jessica Jarmin and daughter: Eden Rose, of Fargo, ND, Daniel and Cheryl Nelson, both of Thief River Falls, Cody Gram (Paige) and son Maverick, of Middle River;             sister-in-law: Anna Hunt, of Rock Lake, ND; in addition to several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
