Stephen-Argyle’s defense has allowed just 73 total points through two rounds of Section 8A basketball. On Saturday, March 11, the Goodridge/Grygla Chargers were the latest team to fall to Stephen-Argyle as the Storm advanced with a 70-47 win in a West Sub-Section semifinal game.
Goodridge/Grygla Head Coach Mike Gast credited his team for playing hard but added that his team wasn’t as sharp as it had been in recent games.
“We didn't execute our offense as well as we would have liked,” Gast said. “We didn't shoot the the ball very well either. I thought that we played hard and the guys gave it their all. I am proud of the effort, it just didn't go the way we wanted.”
The Storm were led by a high scoring trio of Hunter Yutrzenka who scored 18 points with five assists and nine rebounds; Chris McGlynn with 15 points, four assists and seven rebounds; and Isaac Mills with 17 points, one assist and six rebounds.
“Stephen-Argyle has a very good team and they played better than we did,” Gast said.
Tyler Stinar and Ben Groven were the top scorers for Goodridge/Grygla. Each had 13 points, with Stinar adding an assist and four rebounds, while Groven four rebounds.
“I love our team and we had a good year,” Gast said. “It was fun and enjoyable to coach these guys. Our seniors were awesome and led the team very well. They will be missed.”
