East Grand Forks – Elizabeth “Bette” Barbara (Kuknyo) Beich, age 92, of East Grand Forks, and formerly of Thief River Falls, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at her home.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Bette was born on March 27, 1925, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Ripesey) Kuknyo. She was raised in Chicago and graduated from Fenger High School.
On September 27, 1947 she was married to Orion Beich in Chicago. In 1949, they moved to Thief River Falls where they set up an Optometric practice called Falls Vision Clinic.  Throughout their lives, they were very active in their community, and always shared their love for Thief River Falls.
In 2011, Bette moved to East Grand Forks to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Sandy.  Moving to East Grand Forks allowed her the opportunity to be closer to her grandchildren and attend all of their activities.
Bette loved music and dancing, and one of her favorite stories was telling how she met her future husband dancing to the Lawrence Welk Orchestra in Chicago. She also enjoyed traveling, spending time at the lake, and going to the farm.
Bette loved little children, and whenever she saw a baby she always stopped to give them some special attention. She loved telling stories and sharing her experiences, living through the Depression, WWII and all the changes she witnessed throughout her life.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Richard) Anderson of Waukesha, WI; Steven Beich of Thief River Falls; and Terry (Sandy) Beich of East Grand Forks, MN; six grandchildren, Amy, Tim, Josh, Brendon, Ryan, and Malia; and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Elyse; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bette had a special connection with Molly the beagle and Tako the parrot and was caught always sneaking them special treats.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her six brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to thank Altru Hospice and Comfort Keepers of Grand Forks for all the wonderful care that they gave to Bette.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
