Salem, SD – Beverly Rhode of Salem, South Dakota, formerly of Mentor, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Canistota Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 29, at 11:00 a.m. in Mentor, with interment of her ashes to follow.
Beverly was born to George and Clara (Groven) Rude on March 28, 1925 in Spokane, Washington. She attended school in Walsh County, ND, Crookston, Dugdale and Mentor.
Beverly was joined in marriage to Robert (Bob) Rhode on January 18, 1942 in Fertile. They raised four children together. The family farmed near Mentor, and when Bob worked construction, Beverly managed the farm on her own.
After the family moved to town, Beverly worked for Jiffy Fry in Crookston, on the French fry line until an auto accident left her with an eye injury. Bob passed away on November 13, 1970 from a brain tumor.
Beverly married Blaine Turner on October 23, 1980.  The couple owned and operated Turner’s Tavern in Jacobson, for several years until they moved back to Mentor full-time in 1983. Beverly then sold pull-tabs at the Mentor Liquor Store until she retired at the age of 84.
Beverly taught Sunday School for several years, was a Cub Scout Den leader in Erskine, was a Pioneer Girls leader in Mentor and was an active member of Royal Neighbors for a majority of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and was often the center of many family gatherings. She loved music and was a huge fan of Daniel O’Donnell and American Idol.
Bev also liked to do crafting. After learning to knit from Mollie Comer, she would sit up all hours of the night and make sweaters and socks for the family, including Barbie doll clothes for Deb’s dolls. Crocheting was another of her loves.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Sharon) Rhode of Carthage, MO, Jeff (Colleen) Rhode of Helena, MT, and daughter Debra of Salem, SD, grandchildren Kris Rhode, Laurlita Rhode, Jacob Rhode, Josh Rhode, Larissa Schaffer, Rod Rindahl, Randy Rindahl, Bob Rindahl, Tracy Allrich, Ashley Rhode, Jeni Harnden, Bob Rhode, Jim Rhode, Megan Francis, and Kristen Benidt, as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
