Gerald “Knute” Johnsrud, 60

Goodridge – Gerald “Knute” Johnsrud, 60 of Goodridge, passed away on Wednesday, May 03, 2017.
Funeral service was on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Ekelund Lutheran Church rural Goodridge, with Rev. Kristin Ostercamp officiating. Burial followed at the Czech National Cemetery in rural Goodridge.
Gerald Roy Johnsrud was born on February 10, 1957 in Thief River Falls, the son of Robert and Delores (McEnelly) Johnsrud. He was baptized and confirmed at Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge. He attended school in Goodridge, graduating with the class of 1975. Following school, Gerald attended the AVTI in Thief River Falls for carpentry. During his high school years, Gerald was given the nickname of Knute, which he has been lovingly known throughout the years.
Knute worked a few odd jobs with carpentry and also was an oiler for the dragline. In 1979, Knute started a carpentry business known as Northwest Builders along with Danny Johnsrud, Joel Dahlen, Richard Vraa and Jeff Dahlen.
On June 21, 1980, Knute was united in marriage to Fern Horachek at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Goodridge. They made their home in Star Township where they have continued to reside. To this union two sons were born, Bradley and Clifton. Knute started working with his father on the Johnsrud Family Farm with dairy cattle and small grains. Following his dad’s death in 2003, Knute sold the dairy cattle and continued with small grains.
Knute loved his life on the farm which he was very proud to share with his children, grandchildren and all of his family. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed ice fishing when he had time. He also loved his daily coffee breaks with Fern. Papa Knute loved teasing and playing with his grandchildren, riding around in his Ranger checking the fields and visiting with the neighbors. He was a faithful son who would help his mother and mother-in-law with anything. Although Knute was a gentle man of few words, he had a very strong presence. He will be remembered for his fun-loving personality and how he lived his life unselfishly.
Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Fern; sons, Brad (Rozlynn) Johnsrud and Cliff (Jena) Johnsrud; grandchildren, Jordynn, Carter Lee, Donald, Jennings and Cash; mother, Delores Johnsrud; all of Goodridge; siblings, James (Kim) Johnsrud of Goodridge, Kathy (Ed) Sabol of Thief River Falls; mother-in-law, Eleanor Horachek of Goodridge; sisters-in-law, Berny (Donald) Vraa, Susie (Larry) Johnsrud both of Goodridge; and many nieces and nephews and several extended family members and friends.
