    Fairborn, OH – Karla Elaine “MeeMa” Thompson age 54, passed away at the Hospice of Dayton on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Karla had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-small Cell lung cancer on March 3, 2017. At the time of her diagnosis, the cancer was advanced.
    Funeral services were held Sunday May 7, 2017 at Morris Sons Funeral Home 104 W. Main St. Fairborn.  Donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers. Condolences may be sent to www.morris-sons.com
    She was born on 17 January 1963 in Deer River. The daughter of Robert and Beverly Houston who predeceased her. Karla grew up in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1981.
    Karla loved life, and was a passionate, forgiving, caring and the best loving grandmother, mother and wife. Karla’s love of her life for the last three years was her first born grandson Lennox. They had a special loving bond. Lennox loved his MeeMa!
    Karla also loved her sons Zachary and Joshua dearly. They were her special boys. Karla enjoyed many outdoor hobbies and in the spring and summer loved to be sitting on her covered front porch at home. She loved to take Lennox to the park in the spring and summer because of the joy it brought to Lennox and the special times they had at the park. One of her favorite hobbies was thrift shop shopping and the treasures she always found.
    Karla was an Air Force spouse of 20 years and spent time with her family in Alaska, Panama City, FL, England, Illinois and Dayton, Ohio. Throughout the years, Karla had a variety of careers. She was a station agent with ASA Airlines and a travel agent in Panama City, FL. She was also a manager of the Marriott Courtyard in Dayton, Ohio, and in recent years an accounting specialist with City Electric in Dayton, Ohio.
    Karla is survived by her ex-husband Mark Thompson, Son Zachary (Chantelle), Grandson Lennox Thompson, Son, Joshua Thompson, Brother Steve and Sister-in-law Laural Swanson of Thief River Falls, Brother Dewey Swanson of Thief River Falls, Brother-in-Law Ken Johnson and Sister Debra Johnson of Prescott, AZ and Brother Rick Houston of Thief River Falls. Karla is also survived by 10 adult nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Scott Robert Houston.
    Karla lived well, laughed often and loved much. She defined family as life’s greatest blessing. She was loved by all who knew her and will be passionately missed.
