Thief River Falls – Dan “Danny” Stensrud, 59, of Thief River Falls, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at Villa St Vincent in Crookston.
    Funeral Service was held  on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Jeff Gustafson officiating.  
    Military Honors were provided by the Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793 and Minnesota National Guard Honor Guard.
    Dan Edward Stensrud was born April 28, 1958 in Marshall, the son of Cyril and Lois (Pfarr) Stensrud. He was baptized shortly after birth at the English Lutheran Church  in Cottonwood. He attended school in Cottonwood until the family moved to Thief River Falls in 1966. He was confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church. He dropped out of school at the age of 16, but later got his GED Certificate of Graduation.
    Dan enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard in 1987 and took basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He then went on for Medic training in Texas. He was injured during maneuvers at Camp Ripley and was Honorably Discharged.
    In his earlier years, Dan worked with his father at Cenex Fertilizer Plant in Thief River Falls. He also was an over the road trucker and drove truck in the oil fields in North Dakota.  Dan’s last job was working for Phillips Iron in Thief River Falls which he worked for many years.
    On September 3, 2003, Dan was united in marriage to Virginia (Ferman) Olson in Thief River Falls where the couple has continued to reside.
    Dan was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W.  He loved fishing, hunting, spending time on the lake on his pontoon, and playing cards.
    Survivors include his wife, Virginia; step-daughter, Stephanie (Rob) Finstad and their children, Dylan, Jerzie and Mylah; mother-in-law, Alice Thune; parents, Cyril and Lois Stensrud; siblings, Kathryn (Richard) Grandbois of rural Red Lake Falls, Clinton (Adele) Stensrud of Plymouth, and Les Stensrud of Karlstad; one uncle, Albert Pfarr of Forman, ND; aunts, Arlene Pfarr of Forman, ND, Dixie Pfarr of Fairfax, and Phyllis Pfarr of Dacona, CO; brothers-in-law, Garry Ferman, Jeff Thune, Sonny (Pam) Ferman and David Ferman and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Dan is preceded in death by both sets of Grandparents, John and Elizabeth Stensrud; William and Mathilda Pfarr; sister-in-law, Christine (Johnson) Stensrud; 14 uncles, 12 aunts and several cousins.
