Thief River Falls defeated Badger/Greenbush-Middle River 5-0 to conclude its regular season and 11-1 in the nightcap to win the Agassiz Valley Conference Championship.
The afternoon game included a four-hit, nine strikeout performance by starting pitcher Alexa Rogalla, with Lexi Huot pitching two scoreless innings to close out the game. Josie Davis and Camryn Schwab each went 2-for-3 at the plate, with Davis knocking in one run and Schwab knocking in two.
Gracei Gullikson took the game one loss for BGMR, allowing five runs on seven hits.
With the game one victory, the Prowlers concluded the regular season with a 15-5 record.
In the nightcap, BGMR got off to a fast start. Gullikson walked to open the inning and stole both second and third before scoring on a wild pitch. With two outs in the inning, Carley Mekash reached on a single to left field, Abby Brockouse walked and Josee Locken walked to load the bases, before Rogalla got out of a jam by striking out Hannah Anderson.
Thief River Falls responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Allie Okeson singled to pitcher Brenna Dallager and beat out the throw to first. Rogalla walked to move Okeson to second. Okeson tied the game on a Kora Torkelson single, with courtesy runner Cayley Sabol advancing to third.
Kylea Praska reached on a fielders choice that didn’t record any outs to load the bases. Number five hitter Claire Mattson singled to score Sabol from third and give the Prowlers a 2-1 lead.
With the bases still loaded, BGMR made a pitching change and brought Gullikson back into the game.
Torkelson scored from third on a Josie Davis sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 in favor of the Prowlers. Praska scored from second on a Breanna Wienen single; and Mattson scored on a sacrifice fly by Huot.
Staked to a 5-1 lead, Rogalla shut down the Gators in order in the second, third and fifth innings and only allowed one base runner in the fourth inning after hitting Anderson with a pitch. She went on to get the win, allowing just one run on two hits in five innings of work.
Thief River Falls added on to its lead in the bottom of the fourth with another five-run outburst. Okeson walked and reached second when Rogalla bunted for a base hit. Torkelson singled to score Okeson from second, Sabol went from first to third and Torkelson took second on the throw home. Both batters scored on a Mattson single. She moved to second on Davis’ single; and both Mattson and courtesy runner Erin Kraemer scored later in the inning on a throwing error.
Leading 10-1, the Prowlers ended the game early when Torkelson scored from second on a Mariah Nelson double.
