A total of 217 fishermen, including 26 kids, put lines in the waters of the Thief and Red Lake rivers for the 12th Annual Lions Fishing Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 19.
Greg Habedank reeled in the top walleye. At 5.35 pounds, Habedank’s walleye was a full pound and a half heavier than runner-up Brad Klaven’s 3.82-pound walleye. Third place went to Ross Swenson with a 3.37-pound walleye.
In the Northern Pike division, it was Joseph Paradis who weighed in the heaviest fish. Paradis’ 11.83-pound northern was the only fish in the division to crack double digits in weight. Second place went to Karl Kvick with a 7.8-pound northern and Doug Harbott was third at 6.4 pounds.
Casey Rolland weighed in the heaviest fish on the day, after bringing in a 13.11-pound catfish. Rolland’s catfish was almost four pounds heavier than the 9.25-pound sheephead weighed in by Mark Hutmacher, as they claimed the top two spots in the other category. Eddie Castle took third in the othe category with an 8.32 pound sucker.
Carly Johnson reeled in a 4.52-pound northern that was good enough for 10th overall in the Northern Pike division and first in the kids division. Rounding out the top three in the kids division were Cooper Kangas with a 3.5-pound northern and Jake Paulson with a 3.28-pound northern.
